How Real Talk Media Group Gets Paid

Zero dealer money. Ever. Consumer subscriptions, member-benefit licensing to credit unions, regulator research grants, press-syndication, and disclosed affiliate links in comparison articles are the entire revenue base. This page names every category we accept and every category we refuse — with the editorial firewall covenant we require in writing before any dollar changes hands.

What We Refuse (Non-Negotiable)

Never accepted — no exceptions

  • Dealer advertising dollars, sponsorships, or paid content
  • Dealer group co-branded content or paid partnerships
  • Referral fees or lead-generation commissions from indirect auto lenders
  • OEM co-marketing or paid placement
  • F&I product-provider referral fees, kickbacks, or override commissions
  • Affiliate commissions of any kind on any product rated in the F&I Products Database, and affiliate links of any kind inside the Database, the Deal Analyzer, the $49 Audit, or the Compliance Library
  • Vehicle-history report affiliate payments where the report vendor is also a dealer service
  • Any payment structure that varies with what we write, publish, or recommend

What We Accept (With Disclosure + Editorial Firewall)

Accepted revenue sources

  • Consumer subscriptions and paid products — Out-the-Door Audit ($49), War Room ($299), F&I Database ($9/month), Advocate Call ($99), any future consumer paywall.
  • Disclosed affiliate links in comparison articles — extended vehicle service contracts, auto insurance, vehicle history reports, pre-purchase inspections, and Amazon. Every such link is tagged rel="sponsored", disclosed on the page and on the Affiliate Disclosure, and never appears inside the F&I Products Database, the Deal Analyzer, the $49 Audit, or the Compliance Library. No affiliate partner sees content before publication or influences a rating. We do not run display advertising.
  • Credit union member-benefit licensing — flat per-member or per-audit fee. CU has zero editorial input. Firewall covenant required in writing before pilot begins.
  • Insurer white-label tools — flat-fee tooling. No behavioral variance. Same firewall covenant.
  • State Attorney General, CFPB, or state regulator research grants — written scope, published in the funding ledger.
  • Foundation grants — published in the funding ledger with counterparty and dollar amount.
  • Press syndication and licensing — Consumer Reports model. Content licensed to outlets on flat-fee, non-editorial terms.

Case-by-Case (Published in the Funding Ledger)

Any B2B contract above $10,000 per year

  • Published summary in the public funding ledger including counterparty name, total dollar amount, contract term, and editorial firewall covenant clauses.
  • Public link to the executed non-interference language.
  • Public link to any conflict-of-interest disclosure attached to the contract.

Why This Line Is Drawn Here

Consumer Reports has run this model since 1936. Zero advertising, member-funded, editorial independence enforced by policy — not by wishful thinking. That is the model we are adapting for auto retail. If a car buyer cannot trust that the person reviewing their paperwork has no financial interest in the dealer being reviewed, the paperwork review is worth nothing. So we do not take dealer money. Ever. No exceptions.

What “zero dealer money” means next to the founder’s day job. Manny Ruiz is employed by Jimmy Britt Chevrolet GMC in Greensboro, GA as a Senior Sales Professional and Trainer, and that dealership pays him for the vehicles he sells there. That is his personal employment, and it is disclosed next to every place on this site where he offers to sell you a car. Real Talk Media Group — the publisher — takes no money from any dealer, including Jimmy Britt: no sponsorship, no referral fee, no paid placement, no share of a sale. The $49 Deal Review Report is paid by the buyer and reviews any dealer’s paperwork; a buyer’s order from Jimmy Britt Chevrolet GMC is handled on Manny’s free QUOTE line instead of the paid product, so the report is never grading his own store for money.

Credit unions and insurers pay us for tools that help their members and policyholders — not for editorial cover. The firewall covenant is what makes that safe. Every CU or insurer pilot begins with a signed non-interference clause. If the CU flags a dealer we have written about, we do not suppress or highlight that content. If the insurer wants us to soften a warranty claim, we do not.

How to Verify This

The funding ledger is public. Every B2B contract above $10,000 per year is summarized publicly with counterparty, amount, term, and firewall language. Every editorial decision is logged. If we ever violate this policy, we will publish the violation on this page with a dated correction.

Our full verification methodology · Editorial policy · Paper trail

Correction 2026-09-18: an earlier version of this page said we refuse “extended-warranty affiliate commissions of any kind” while our comparison articles and Affiliate Disclosure said we earn them. The articles were right; this page was wrong. The refusal now reads as intended — no affiliate money touches anything we rate or audit — and the accepted list names the affiliate categories.
