Editorial Policy
The Editorial Wall
Real Talk Media Group LLC operates a strict editorial wall separating our journalism and consumer-education content from any commercial relationship the founder or the company may have.
Manny Ruiz, our founder, is currently employed as a Senior Sales Professional and Trainer at Jimmy Britt Chevrolet GMC in Greensboro, Georgia. This is public. It appears in his bio. It appears in every article he writes about the sales floor.
The wall between his role at Jimmy Britt and his editorial role at Real Talk works as follows:
- No manufacturer, dealer, or F&I vendor pays Real Talk. Not for advertising, not for placement, not for coverage, not for exclusion of coverage. This restriction applies to Jimmy Britt Chevrolet GMC same as any other dealer.
- Editorial decisions run through our verification process (see How We Verify) regardless of whether the subject is a dealer we favor or a dealer we criticize.
- Every claim is source-cited to a primary regulatory or statutory document, not to Manny’s floor experience, and not to any dealer.
- Manny’s floor notes — the personal notes at the bottom of Compliance Library cells and articles — are labeled as such, are checked against his verified service and dealership record so they do not misstate his career, and do not carry the weight of a source citation.
- We publish criticisms of dealer-side practice — including practices at Manny’s own employer, if an independently verified issue arises. Our compact with readers precedes our compact with any employer of the founder.
Conflict of Interest: The Firewall
Our founder works inside the industry we cover. That is a strength — it is why our rules reflect what actually happens on a sales floor rather than theory — but it is also a conflict we manage in the open. Here is exactly how we keep Manny’s job at Jimmy Britt Chevrolet GMC from tilting Real Talk’s coverage:
- Recusal from his own store. Real Talk does not rate, rank, grade, or issue a fee-legality verdict on Jimmy Britt Chevrolet GMC as if it were a neutral third party. Where Jimmy Britt appears in our content it is labeled as the founder’s employer, and any evaluative claim about it is verified against primary sources independently of Manny.
- The rules apply to his employer identically. Every fee ceiling, disclosure requirement, and compliance standard we publish applies to Jimmy Britt exactly as it applies to any other dealer — no softer, no harsher.
- No competitor targeting. Our dealer-level analysis is driven by uploaded buyer paperwork and primary-source rules, not by the founder’s commercial interest. We do not single out his employer’s competitors, and we do not publish a verdict we would not stand behind if the dealer named were our own.
- Source over standing. Every regulatory or dollar-figure claim cites a primary
.govsource with a date. Manny’s floor experience informs which questions to ask; it never substitutes for a citation. - Disclosure everywhere it’s relevant. Manny’s active dealership employment appears in his bio, in this policy, and on every deal-analysis surface where a reader could reasonably want to know it.
Commitments in progress. As Real Talk’s deal-verdict tools reach the public, we are formalizing two additional safeguards: (1) a defined transition point at which the founder steps off the sales floor, tied to Real Talk’s revenue and public reach rather than left open-ended; and (2) an independent, written attestation that this firewall is being followed, renewed on a fixed schedule. Both will be published here as they are finalized.
Sponsorship
Real Talk Media Group LLC accepts no sponsorships from any auto-industry party. This includes:
- Franchise or independent dealers
- Vehicle manufacturers and captive finance arms
- Aftermarket F&I product administrators (VSC, GAP, Tire+Wheel, etc.)
- Auto insurance carriers
- Auto lender or auto-adjacent fintech
- Dealer software and dealer-side compliance vendors
- Automotive lead-generation providers
This restriction is doctrinal and permanent. It cannot be waived by editorial or business considerations. It survives changes in Real Talk’s business model, ownership, and management. If Real Talk Media Group LLC is ever acquired, the acquisition documents must preserve this restriction.
Affiliate relationships
Real Talk includes affiliate links in some articles where consumer products or services with which we have no editorial relationship provide value to readers. Affiliate links currently include:
- Third-party VSC providers (Endurance, CarShield, olive, CARCHEX, autopom!) — when the reader would benefit from a comparison and the reader-facing information about the product is verifiable
- Consumer-side legal aid or advocacy tools that do not have an interest in our editorial coverage
Affiliate links are always disclosed inline on the article where they appear, always precede or follow an independently verified comparison, and are always subject to the inverse rule: if we publish an affiliate disclosure block on a page, at least one outbound affiliate link on that page must be present. Disclosure without affiliates is misleading (an FTC UDAAP concern in the reverse direction), and affiliates without disclosure is a per-se FTC violation. We do neither.
Real Talk’s affiliate revenue represents a small fraction of total revenue, and the affiliate program cannot dictate editorial direction. Any single affiliate that attempts to condition compensation on editorial coverage is terminated from the affiliate program.
Corrections and retractions
When an independently verified claim on a Real Talk property is later found to be incorrect — because the underlying statute changed, or because we made a verification error, or because a source we relied on was itself wrong — we:
- Log the correction in the public the Paper Trail with the specific claim, the retraction reason, and the corrected version
- Update the underlying cell or article with a visible “Correction” block at the top of the affected content
- Cross-post the correction on our internal editorial audit trail, the editorial team’s private log, and the Paper Trail (our public correction register)
- Do not silently delete the erroneous claim — the record of what we said, and the record of the correction, both stay public
If a reader informs us of an error, we treat their report as an audit request, respond in writing, and if they are right we correct the record with public attribution to their audit (unless they request anonymity).
Who edits this site
Real Talk Media Group has one editor: Manny Ruiz. There is no editorial board yet and no outside reviewer on staff; pages are not reviewed by an attorney before they publish. We say this plainly because a trust page that implies a newsroom we do not have would be its own kind of misstatement. What stands in for a board today is process: every regulatory or dollar-figure claim is traced to a primary source with an access date, disputed facts are published as “Not yet verified” rather than guessed, and the founder personally spot-checks a sample of state pages against the underlying statutes before they are treated as settled.
Two rules follow from having a single editor. First, no aggregate statistic drawn from reader-submitted deals will be published until the method is published, an independent reviewer has checked it, and a minimum sample size is met (at least 30 deals and 10 dealers per figure, medians only) — we collect nothing for that purpose without the buyer’s separate, optional consent, and we publish nothing from it today. Second, the automated Deal Review Report is exactly that: software applying published rules to the numbers on a buyer’s order. No person reads a report before it is sent, and the report says so.
How to report an error
Email [email protected] with the page URL and the specific claim. Every report is answered in writing. If the claim is wrong, the page gets a dated correction block at the top and the correction is logged on the Paper Trail; the original wording is not silently deleted.
Authorship
Every Compliance Library cell, article, dossier, and Paper Trail entry is authored under Manny Ruiz’s byline — Manny Ruiz · Real Talk Media Group — as founder and editor-in-chief. Manny has editorial responsibility for every piece Real Talk publishes.
We do not use ghostwritten content presented as Manny’s personal work. Content generated with AI assistance (research, drafting, translation) is used as an editorial tool — Manny reviews, verifies, and takes editorial responsibility before publication.
Bilingual coverage
Real Talk publishes in English and Spanish. Every Compliance Library cell has an English version and a Spanish version. Both versions are independently verified, and the bilingual parity test ensures the numerics, statute citations, source URLs, and cell ID are identical across the two languages. The Spanish version is not a machine translation of the English — it is an independently edited version with the parity constraint enforced by automated test.
Manny is a native Spanish speaker at DLPT 3/3 proficiency and takes editorial responsibility for both versions.
Reader relationships
Real Talk does not currently sell consumer data. Reader email addresses collected through our newsletter or advisory intake flows are used for the direct purpose stated at collection and are not sold, shared with dealers, or traded to advertising networks. Email addresses collected for Advisory intake are used to facilitate Advisory service delivery and are retained per our privacy policy.
